  • Handsome stone cottage on the edge of Brecon town
  • Ideal for walks through the beautiful Brecon Beacons
  • Picturesque views across water meadows and the River Usk
Property code: BN134

A handsome holiday home, marrying period character with comfort and offering exceptional access to the bustling cathedral town, as well as to the scenic Brecon Beacons.

Discover the natural beauty of the Brecon Beacons National Park when you head out on long walks from the front door of this appealing, three-bedroom Welsh cottage. Sleeping up to five guests, it is also well-placed for the shops, restaurants and cafes of the vibrant market town of Brecon. Venture out from your holiday home on the edge of Brecon to enjoy a 3.5-mile walk along the River Usk to the village of Llanfrynach;  drive 4 to 6 miles to the various popular starting points for hiking the main peaks and circular routes of the Brecon Beacons. Or instead begin your walk straight from the door approx 4 miles across country exploring the old Roman Road and historic Drovers route to the starting point for routes to the popular peak of Pen y fan for a good day’s hiking suitable for all the family. Follow up with an evening meal at one of several country pubs within striking distance of the town. Stroll into town to the beginning of the tow path of the Brecon to Monmouth Canal or even hire a cruiser boat or canoes there and combine with a picnic or a meal at some worthy eating places along the way.

Your chances of seeing the resident kingfisher just meters from the house and, at the right time of year, a leaping salmon are high on this beautiful stretch of the River Usk which borders the historic parkland and water meadows that remain part of this historic rural estate today. Day fishing for this river may be booked through Brecon Town Council or the Wye and Usk Scheme. Spend time at the lake at Llangorse, 6.5 miles away, or take the children to Cantref Adventure Farm, 3.5 miles away.

The property is lovingly furnished as the owner’s own personal home from home and as a result you may enjoy the fine collection of furniture, landscape art and a well stocked bookshelves during your stay. In summer enjoy the distant comforting sounds of school cricket, or in winter the cheer of a good game of rugby coming from the beautifully keepered historic school grounds of the medieval founded school of Christ College adjacent.

Climb the steps into the reception hall at this welcoming, stone detached property, and leave your boots, coats and bags before wandering on through into the kitchen. Light the wood burner in here and carry a pot of tea over to the window seat. Also find everything you need to cook up tasty feasts in the kitchen, plus a table at which to dine with your family and friends, and a handy washing machine and tumble dryer in the utility area. After dinner, settle in the lounge to gaze out across the water meadows or watch TV. On sunny days, throw open the French doors on to the patio and enclosed garden. Discover a shower room with WC on the ground floor and the family bathroom up on the first floor: this features a hand-held shower over the bath, twin hand basins and a WC. Your attractive bedrooms are up here too, a super-king-size,  a twin and a single, with oak floors and scenic views over the surroundings.

The beautiful, lawned garden at this Brecon holiday home is framed against a backdrop of verdant, rolling hills. Soak up the sunshine out here, with the Sunday papers and a cup of fresh coffee, while the children play on the lawn. Find parking for two cars at the house.

What a great location, with great hill and river views, but still really close to the town. Enjoyed our family stay in this lovely holiday home. Location is excellent, peaceful with a large garden and yet only a short walk into Brecon town centre. Shops, restaurants, museums etc. It was a great base from which to explore the surrounding Welsh countryside. Loved our stay here.

A spacious, characterful, sympatheticaly renovated property in a fabulous location. Central Brecon, but incredibly quiet. We did have some maintenance and cleanliness issues, and freezer which I had to defrost. These were reported to the caretaker. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the location.

An updated shower in a larger cabinet would be good. Other than that, our only other comment would be that the sash windows are very heavy & difficult to open. As our week in June was one of the hottest in the year, more ventilation in the bedroom would have been appreciated.

Very comfortable cottage in a lovely position in Brecon, with a feeling of being in the countryside while being close to all amenities. Lovely sitting room and kitchen. Only niggles were damp patches in main bedroom and wafer thin curtains.
