Situated near the northern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, the Welsh town of Brecon is the perfect location for lovers of the outdoors. As well as its Georgian architecture, you can follow Captain's Walk and see the remains of Brecon's medieval walls or visit the South Wales Borderers Museum at Brecon Barracks. Take advantage of good weather to cruise the canal that links Brecon with Newport. The area is steeped in history with some of Europe’s finest surviving castles, Brecon Castle overlooking the River Usk, Abergavenny Castle set against the spectacular hills and Crickhowell Castle. Also within easy reach are many attractions to include The Big Pit National Coal Museum, Blaenavon Iron Works and the National Showcaves Centre.
