Enjoying a peaceful location in the grounds of the owner's house, this charming stone cottage is surrounded by lovely mature gardens with fragrant flower beds and shady trees to picnic under. Located on the edge of the medieval village of Clyro, the popular town of Hay-on-Wye (2.5 miles) is a short drive or walk away where you will find cafes, restaurants and the world-famous bookshops. Enjoy rambles along the banks of the River Wye and seek out The Warren, a pretty spot for wild swimming. Browse the craft shops set within the grounds of the ancient castle and pick up a souvenir of your stay. Discover the stunning scenery of the Brecon Beacons National Park by foot or cycle with the peaks of Pen y Fan (26 miles) and The Skirrid (23 miles) within reach. Both the Wye Valley Walk and Offa’s Dyke Walk runs through Hay-on-Wye offering traffic-free trails. Not to be missed is the ancient city of Hereford with its imposing cathedral, ruined castle and cider museum.

Reached up a quiet lane, this lovely retreat enjoys a peaceful and private location tucked away in the mature forest garden. Step through the front door and into the galley kitchen where you will find everything you need to prepare meals for two. With an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge and freezer, unpack your provisions for a home-from-home stay. There is a washing machine and drying room in the adjoining utility room for your convenience. Step through into the generous lounge/diner where you can dine with a view at the cosy table set next to the large window. This is a bright and airy room with local landscapes adorning the walls. Snuggle up on the sofa to watch a film on the TV or listen to music on the CD player as you chat late into the evening. When it’s time for bed head through into the restful bedroom and drift off to sleep in the king-size bed. The bedroom benefits from a spacious en-suite bathroom with corner bath and separate shower cubicle.

The cottage was light and roomy and served the two of us well for an enjoyable walking holiday, with some walks from the door so no need to use the car every day. Lovely garden and places to sit out although the garden furniture was not in tip top condition - location of cushions not obvious, some were mouse eaten and the furniture left outside wasRead more grubby and the bench covered in lichen. . There was a utility room but nowhere warm enough to dry rain soaked clothes which we unfortunately needed Hide

The cottage felt like home as soon as we arrived, partly due to the attractive, bright interior and beautiful setting in a lovely, tree and flower filled garden but also due to the warm welcome by Sarah and Jim. After the bustle of the Hay festival it is a tranquil retreat. An added delight was the amount of bird life visiting the garden. We counteRead mored 12 species while having breakfast. It is a good base for walkers or visiting Brecon Beacons. We hope to return. Hide
