  • The perfect getaway for couples and small families alike, escape to this stunningly remote cottage
  • Pull on your walking boots and explore the Begwns, a range of hills on the Radnorshire side of the River Wye
  • The only neighbours are the mountain ponies, sheep and the Red Kite that frequently soar above
Property code: BN372

At the end of the 1 mile-long rutted track through the surrounding hills, discover this traditional stone cottage, where phenomenal views and a gorgeous, welcoming character interior awaits

Discover unexplored countryside from the door, with no set footpaths but many tracks made by local farmers tending to the mountain ponies and sheep. Activities such as hang gliding, rock climbing, abseiling, and gorge-walking can all be arranged locally, with nearby Llangorse Lake being a popular destination. Enjoy paddling at The Warren, the local river beach, or hire a kayak further down the river at Glasbury. For walkers and cyclists head to the Brecon Beacons National Park for plenty of walks and places to explore by bike, whilst the Wye Valley has canoeing, shooting, river and lake fishing. There are a wealth of attractions including the Monmouth and Brecon Canal, South Wales Borderers Museum and Abergavenny Castle and Museum. If you've simply run low on supplies, discover boutique clothes shops, antique dealers, pubs and restaurants and books shops galore at Hay-on-Wye, just 4 miles away.

Extremely remote and difficult to access in extreme weather conditions be prepared to walk if necessary (boots needed in muddy weather). Having negotiated the track to this cottage you will not be disappointed. The spectacular views are like being on top of the world, whilst the characterful interiors feel like a trip back in time. With its original bread oven alongside the attractive open fire and the huge oak beams this traditional stone cottage has a cosy, timeless feel. The open-plan downstairs has a lovely stone tile floor and the kitchen has an electric cooker, microwave, fridge and freezer and a large window with far-reaching views. Huge oak posts divide the kitchen from the rest of the living area that contains the sitting and dining section. The living area features an oak over-mantle over a stone fireplace with its original bread oven, whilst oak beams, low ceilings and stone windowsills throughout echo the traditional decor. The dining table seats three, and the comfortable sofa and reclining chairs face the open fire, the perfect place from which to enjoy a film. Climb the relatively steep flight of stairs to the two bedrooms and the bathroom. The master bedroom has a double bed and exposed beams, as does the second single room, whilst the spacious bathroom has a large shower.

We had a great time there. You can go off for walks straight from the door. The place is on the edge of the moor in off the road so you drive over the moor to get to the house.
