The popular town of Hay-on-Wye is known as The Town of Books and is famous for its annual literary festival and numerous bookshops. Hay is home to a castle, a thriving arts scene and a range of great pubs, shops, restaurants and markets. This is a fantastic area for activities including walking, cycling, horse riding and fishing. Other local landmarks and attractions include Talgarth Mill (5.5 miles), Llangorse Lake (10.5 miles) and the Begwn Hills (6.5 miles).

Situated at the end of a long drive, a flight of steps leads up from the parking area to the property itself, with additional steps leading up to the front door. The dining area is perfect for enjoying a family meal, and this room also has underfloor heating. The ground floor also features a separate WC as well as a utility room by the back door which has a washer/dryer, sink and plenty of space for storing muddy boots.

A flight of handcrafted stairs leads up to the first floor where you will find three light, tastefully decorated and relaxing bedrooms. The master bedroom features a king-size bed, as does the second bedroom, and there’s also a delightful twin room with two 2’6 beds particularly suitable for children. You will also find a family bathroom complete with a shower over the bath and a WC.

Heading out through the front door, a few steps lead down to the large elevated terrace where you can sit back in the garden furniture and enjoy a glass of wine, a BBQ or al fresco meal while admiring the stunning country views which surround the property. Common cottage is clean, warm and very well appointed and equipped, the owner has thought of everything yo provide comfort during the stay. We have stayed on three separate occasions and will return. The area has plenty to offer from glorious hill walking to river activities and the scenery and views are breathtaking.

We had a fabulous week in Common Cottage. The kitchen was superbly equipped. The lounge and bedrooms also excellent. We absolutely loved the Welsh cakes left by the owner. The location is great for visiting the Brecon Beacons, surrounding towns and other places of interest. I hope were able to return in the future.

Common Cottage was anything but 'common'! Spacious, beautifully decorated, comfortable beds and just about everything you'd need for a luxurious, relaxing break. Sparklingly clean, it felt as if we we're the first guests to stay here. Lisa kindly accommodated an earlier check-in time for us, and she was very quick to respond to any queries we had. Beautiful, comfortable house in a perfect position to help explore the area - Hay-on-Wye literally 5 minutes away, Brecon Beacons barely 10 minutes, and Elan Valley around 1 hour away. Little better after a day out exploring than getting back to that woodburner and setting a cozy fire on the chilly February evenings. Well equipped and very clean anRead mored tidy. Fresh flowers and Welsh cakes very welcome on arrival too. Only problem was we ran out of time to keep exploring! Hide
