Nestled into the valley, this converted cider mill is surrounded by mature cottage gardens with stunning views. A great base for exploring the Forest of Dean whilst escaping the hustle and bustle of everyday living.

An enviable location within the heart of the Forest of Dean, the traditional village of Lydbrook is well served with a well-stocked shop, fish & chip shop, Indian takeaway and two good pubs. Here you can access cycle paths that will guide you deeper into the forest and the River Wye which is situated at the bottom of the village. Thrill-seekers can enjoy rock climbing and canoeing at Symonds Yat, Go Ape at Mallards Pike and mountain biking throughout the Forest of Dean and Black Mountains across the Welsh Border. Whatever the time of year you’ll be spoilt for choice with a vibrant events calendar; for foodies, festivals include Abergavenny and Forest Showcase festival, while for music lovers, many of the smaller villages host festivals throughout the summer months. Not forgetting the two best known events in the area: the Hay on Wye Festival and Cheltenham Gold Cup.

The cottage enjoys a remote location, and as you climb the narrow footpath you can take in views across the village and surrounding countryside. The front porch offers a space where you can remove muddy boots before you step inside. The cottage is full of character offering a spacious kitchen/breakfast room where you can relax and enjoy catching up with friends whilst dinner is prepared. The kitchen is well-equipped with an electric oven and gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and Nesspresso Coffee Machine. The kitchen enjoys natural light and greenery through the glass roof. There is also a raised dining table with four high-backed stools. For a more formal occasion you can dine in the library – this cosy room with garden views and wooden panelling has a table and chairs for four, and a great selection books and board games. The main lounge is perfect for relaxing, with large sofas, a wood burner and a  Smart TV. There is a utility room with a washing machine and an adjoining shower room with a shower and WC. Upstairs there are two bedrooms. The grand master bedroom has a super-king size bed,TV and steps down to a small garden room where you can enjoy the views with a morning coffee. The second has a king-size zip-and-link (that can be made into a twin upon request). There is a bathroom with a Jacuzzi-style bath, with overhead shower and WC.

There is approximately 1 acre of mature gardens of which you are free to explore. For entertaining, you can make the most of the raised deck to the far side of the cottage which offers a fun, covered bar area and an open terrace with a table and chairs. For stunning views and sunshine, take a stroll to the orchard gardens where you can relax in one of the wooden loungers. A little further up the orchard you can take afternoon tea under the pergola, or simply meander through the grounds. Guests are welcome to help themselves to produce that is growing within the gardens during their stay.

We absolutely loved Mill Cottage. Spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated with lots of homely touches, we felt instantly at home in front of a roaring fire. The kitchen is so well equipped and I've ordered an espresso machine which was a lovely extra particularly the festive coffee pods in our welcome hamper. Do not be put off by the climb to thRead moree cottage, it's well worth the walk for the peace and views, we also got used to the climb very quickly. Would definitely return to this property. Hide

Just returned from a weekend stay and could not recommend any higher. Accommodated our VERY last minute booking after a cancellation. Absolutely everything has been thought of and provided. Stunning property, beautiful grounds, great access to walks and a local shop and pub less than 5 min walk.

The cottage is in a lovely location set up on the side of the valley. Be prepared to carry your luggage uphill on an uneven path. But the effort is,worth it! Kitchen was fantastically well-equipped for a self-catering cottage.

Comfortable, very clean (despite being dog friendly) and spacious living accommodation. Far enough away from the road to be wonderfully quiet at night. Large enclosed garden which was enjoyed by all the family including the dog. Parking provided a couple of minutes walk from the cottage. My partner struggled with the path to the cottage, but a smalRead morel price to pay for the peace and quiet. Hide

A beautiful, comfortable, cottage which exceeded our expectations. The bed was very comfortable. It had lovely gardens, and it was close to lots of places of interest. We'd both had covid, the previous two weeks before the visit, so the walk up to the cottage wasn't the easiest but we managed. It's best to bring luggage in small cases/bags, which wRead moree did luckily. Hide
