Nestled within the Usk Valley and almost entirely surrounded by mountains and hills with the iconic seven hills of Abergavenny (the Blorenge, Sugar Loaf, Ysgyryd Fawr and Ysgyryd Fach (Great Skirrid and Little Skirrid) Deri, Rholben and Mynydd Llanwenarth) all within 10 miles, the choice of walking trails is endless or perhaps you would prefer to stroll the canal which is mere steps from your front door or seek out the local waterfall. The cottage is a perfect base for guests to enjoy the beautiful countryside and is ideal for those that enjoy outdoor pursuits or for guests that just wish to relax into village life. Food Festivals, the Shire Horse Show and the Steam and Vintage Rally are all held locally, with other popular attractions in the area include the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Blaenavon, The Big Pit Coal Museum and the Iron Works. The village of Gilwern itself offers 3 pubs, a butchers, chemist, village shop, post office and fish and chip shop.

On entering this stylish property, guests will walk into the cosy open plan living and dining area, with a warming wood burner on the left hand side of the lounge, you can cosy up to a film on Netflix after a day of exploring the local area. The kitchen is fully equipped with an oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, and a dishwasher. Upstairs the master bedroom has a comfortable king size bed to ensure a good night sleep, with a second bedroom which has a double bed, and a third bedroom with a single bed. There is a full bathroom with a shower over the bath and a wash basin and toilet.

Leading out of the kitchen to the rear of the cottage, is a small, enclosed garden with a table and chair and a charcoal BBQ, perfect to enjoy those summer evenings or morning coffee listening to the birds sing at dawn. The historic and thriving market town of Y Fenni (Abergavenny) known as the gateway to Wales is just a short drive away (4.1 miles), hosts an array of events, has a Norman Castle open to visitors and regular farmers markets. Further into the National park is the vibrant town of Crickhowell (3.2 miles) which is full of independent shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes and is home to the Glanusk Estate which hosts an array of activities throughout the year including the renowned Green Man Festival. A lovely comfortable and cosy cottage, in a great location near to the canal for lovely walks. We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage, it was a real home from home and had everything we needed and more. The attention to detail and lovely decor was very impressive. We would recommend the cottage and will hopefully return. Hide

What a privilege to stay at School Lane. Really beautifully decorated and everything is thought of we could have wanted. The hosts made sure we had everything we needed and provided such a thoughtful welcome basket. The only downside is there is no parking at the property but you are able to pull up at the door to load and unload. The location is fRead moreabulous for accessing the canal and of course the pub is a stone's throw away with pop up street food most weekends. Delightful, luxury family stay. Hide
