Enjoying an elevated location with far-reaching views across the surrounding farmland, this spacious farmhouse welcomes eight guests, is dog friendly and perfect for families wanting to spend time together in the countryside. The small village of Penhow is best known for Penhow Castle, which claims to be the oldest inhabited castle in Wales. The village is well served, offering a couple of local pubs and a well-stocked shop. The property is in a great location where you can explore the local area. Walkers will find well waymarked footpaths from the doorstep, or you can pick up the Offa’s Dyke Path from Chepstow (8.5 miles). For hill walking, venture into the Brecon Beacons National Park (15 miles). Take day trips to some of the local historic sites, including the Caerleon Roman Fortress (7 miles), Chepstow Castle (8.5 miles) and Tintern Abbey (13 miles). Other activities include mountain biking, zip lining, climbing, canoeing and fishing, all within a 30-mile radius.

Enjoy the views across the rolling meadows as you climb up towards the farmhouse. The front offers far-reaching views across the landscape, and a friendly welcome awaits as you leave your muddy boots within the entrance porch. Step into the entrance hall; with a solid wooden staircase and wooden floors, the ground floor offers a space where families can truly relax. The lounge enjoys large picture windows showcasing the views, a wood burner for chilly evenings and a smart TV for your favourite show. The colourful sofas are perfect for sinking into after a busy day. Across the hallway is the hub of the house, the open-plan kitchen/diner. Finished in a contemporary style, here guests can enjoy a hearty supper around the dining table whilst enjoying the views, with a further wood burner to enhance the mood. A breakfast bar cleverly divides the space where you can keep the chef company or enjoy a morning coffee. The kitchen is well equipped, with an additional utility area with washing machine. Upstairs, the landing has an open aspect and guests have the choice of four bedrooms, all finished with soft white bed linen and fluffy towels. There’s a king-size four poster with en-suite shower and WC, a double, a twin and a super-king-size zip-and-link (that can be made into twin beds on request at the time of booking). A family bathroom with shower over bath and WC completes the accommodation.

Outside, guests can relax within the grounds. A detached lodge offers a game room with pool, table football and leather sofas, perfect for relaxing with a good book or a board game. There is also a mini fridge within this space. To the front of the lodge there is a table and chairs lounge set – perfect for summer dining – a sunken trampoline and a raised private deck, home to the hot tub where you can relax after a day exploring. Several beauty treatments can be arranged with the owner to be delivered within this property - perfect for a pamper weekend away.  Owner will send details with your arrival details. There is also access into an enclosed paddock which is great for football, with goalposts provided. For your dogs, there is an outdoor kennel if required, as well as storage for bikes and ample off-road parking. You may even bring your horse which can be stabled in the professional facility.

We had a fabulous stay at Castle Farmhouse. The house was very spacious, really well equipped and in a great location. We really enjoyed our stay at Castle Farmhouse. We enjoyed the Games Room and Hot Tub especially. It was great fun having time to relax and enjoy family time. The walks nearby were good, friendly pub just a short walk away (Rock & Fountain). Bring your wellies or walking boots as its very muddy!

Fantastic location for being rural but all amenities are easily accessible. Gastro Pub 5 mins walk away which takes dogs. Property is decorated beautifully but still homely. Good walks direct from the property. I would definitely recommend staying here. Hosts are friendly and can't do enough for you but also not invasive.
