This historic and airy retreat, set in the heart of the Shropshire Hills AONB near the Welsh border, offers a wonderful rural base for a couples’ weekend or small group getaway. The quaint town of Clun is just 2.5 miles away and boasts a rich history, meaning visitors can explore sites such as the ruins of Clun Castle (2 miles). Guests can also make use of Clun’s amenities, with a choice of charming pubs and restaurants on offer, and local shops for restocking on ingredients. Walkers and lovers of the outdoor will enjoy the many rural trails that cut through the gorgeous countryside, including the famous Offa’s Dyke, just under 4.5 miles away. Explore some of Shropshire’s popular market towns with Bishops Castle (3.5 miles), Church Stretton (15 miles), and Ludlow (18 miles) all within easy reach. The National Trust Powis Castle is 18 miles away and well worth a visit.

Make your way into this beautifully presented, reverse-level stables conversion set on the owner’s farm, a true rural retreat. Starting upstairs on the first floor with its charming views of the surrounding countryside, guests can easily unwind in the open-plan lounge, kitchen and diner. Relax into the comfortable sofas under the airy skylight to watch your favourite films on the Smart TV. In the well-equipped kitchen, the chef has all they need to cook memorable meals for the group, who can gather in the dining space under the exposed wooden beams to reflect on the day’s adventures over dinner. When day turns to night, head downstairs to the ground floor’s two wonderful bedrooms that await; both offering king-size beds, one of which can be converted into twin beds on request. As well as plenty of space to relax and store any luggage, both rooms offer well-appointed and chic en-suite shower rooms. Underfloor heating on the ground floor means it is cosy whatever the time of year.

Outside, relax in the grassy garden that surrounds the property, or enjoy al fresco food and drinks on the patio, complete with an outside table and chairs. For total peace and quiet, unwind in the private hot tub under the clear and undisturbed night sky.
