This former school building with spacious accommodation is set within a peaceful hamlet on the National Cycling route and within easy reach of both the Forest of Dean and Brecon beacons National Park.

The rural hamlet of Earlswood sits within the Wye Valley just six miles west of Chepstow a bustling town with a good selection of pubs and restaurants to suit all tastes, steeped in history with a castle that is the oldest surviving post-Roman stone fortification in Britain. For walkers, you can enjoy the countryside and well-waymarked paths from your front door to include Wentwood, the largest ancient woodland in Wales. For cyclists, you can take advantage of the National Cycling Route (42) which runs past the house. The area is also rich in heritage, with many castles including Goodrich, Monmouth, and Raglan, and numerous beautiful churches including the ancient Kilgwrrwg and the remains of the stunning Tintern Abbey, just a short drive away.

This former schoolhouse offers a warm welcome, step inside where you will find space to leave your muddy boots and coats behind. The entrance offers access into the kitchen/diner where you can get together after a day exploring and enjoy a hearty supper. The kitchen area is traditional in style and well-equipped with electric oven and hob, microwave, coffee machine, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. A small utility area offers a washing machine. For relaxing there is a lounge with wood-burner and Smart TV where you can enjoy a good movie after a busy day. And when the day is done climb the stairs to the first floor where you will find three bedrooms. A  super-king-size zip-and-link ( which can be made into a twin with 3ft singles by request), a double bedroom and a single room. Also on this floor there is a bathroom with shower over bath, WC and hairdryer.

Outside, to the rear of the house, is an enclosed garden with table and chairs and charcoal BBQ. There is off-road parking for two cars and secure storage for bikes. EV charging is also available, additional charges applied.

A lovely cottage that felt really homely and comfortable. The facilities provided were great - it had everything we needed and more. The additional items were very much appreciated. We had a great time during our xmas break. Would definitely recommend.

This is our 3rd visit to Simon's cottage in Earlswood and yet another wonderful visit. Simon is very helpful and responsive and the cottage is just beautiful and such a peaceful spot from which to explore Wales. We hope to be back again soon to explore some more!

Nice comfortable cottage, which is actually the former headmaster's house. Lots of space, excellent beds. Most cleanly place we have ever stayed at, absolutely spotless.

Great property and location. The Old School House is located within close proximity to the ancient Wentwood Forest in the small hamlet of Earlswood. The property is first rate. Beautifully restored, spotlessly clean and very well equipped. It's in a very quiet location. We loved sitting in the garden watching the bird life. The beds were comfortable. Our host was very welcoming and responsive when we had questions. It was a lovely break.

Very lovely cottage! Beautiful and spacious. Also received a very lovely welcome by the owners with some Welsh cakes and treats! Very clean and comfy home, also had puzzles, games and some books available. So will be great for families. Also had a washing machine available. Super stay in this cosy yet spacious cottage. Beautifully decorated for Christmas plus fire logs and welcome basket which were much appreciated. Well equipped kitchen and comfy beds. The property is clean & comfortable, good location with some nice scenery , just not secure enough garden for our dog & no stair gate provided to keep dogs away from bedrooms

Fabulous cottage in an idyllic location! Although this property is only given 4 star rating it was the best holiday cottage we have stayed in! It was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The bed was amazingly comfortable and the views from the cottage were stunning! The large enclosed garden was perfect for our dog to run around too! A fantastic update to a 19th century property. The thick stone walls are an absolutely blessing in weather like 2022's heatwave, while the facilities are firmly 21st century. If you're a confirmed city dweller, do be warned that the nearest pub is a mile away along a country road with no pavement, and the nearest shop is somewhat further, so you maRead morey need to check the bus timetable in advance. But with that comes clean air, fantastic views over the Severn Estuary, and loads of wildlife. Hide

This is our second stay in Earlswood School House and it was just as wonderful this time. Ideally situated to explore south wales and such a wonderful peaceful location. The cottage is exceptionally well equipped and spotlessly clean and Simon was so helpful with any questions we had. Looking to book our third visit soon!
